Sexual Exploitation of Children and Young People
Aim:
The course aims to give an insight into the different ways that young people become sexually exploited and why they may find it difficult to seek help or escape this type of abuse. The course offers participants an opportunity to gain knowledge or increase existing understanding of this area of child protection and abuse.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the course participants will:
- Understand the different methods abusers use to sexually exploit young people
- Understand what makes young people vulnerable to this abuse, how they become involved, what the warning signs might be and what are the barriers to escaping this type of abuse
- Have an increased understanding of the Sexual Offences Act 2003, government guidance and the Bichard Report
- Understand the impact sexual exploitation has on children and their families and have learnt effective ways of working with them
- Have knowledge of local resources and national developments
