Issues of Child Sexual Abuse
Aim:
To provide knowledge and skills in working with children and families affected by sexual abuse.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the course participants will:
- Have increased awareness of issues relating to sexual abuse of a child
- Be able to recognise warning signs of sexual abuse and understand normal sexual development for a child
- Understand how to handle a disclosure from a child of sexual abuse
- Understand sexual abuse in a child protection context, particularly how it can impact on a child and issues for non-abusing parents and carers
- Be aware of local and national sources of support for families affected by sexual abuse
- Have an understanding of what their role and responsibilities are in relation to child sexual abuse, and the relevance of the safeguarding procedures.
