Sex Offenders: Risk Assessment and Treatment
Aim:
To enable practitioners to better safeguard children by increasing awareness of potential signs that someone may have a sexual interest in children.
Learning outcomes:
By the end of the course participants will:
- Understand the legal context of sexual offending against children and abusive images
- Be aware of the scale of abuse by sex offenders
- Have challenged the stereotypes relating to sex offenders
- Understand warning signs that indicate that a person may have a sexual interest in children
- Be able to assess the risk of paedophilia including the mental process of a sex offender, internal and external controls
- Understand the issues related to female sex offenders and children who display sexually harmful behaviour
- Be aware of Sex Offender Treatment Programmes
