Preventing and Responding to Childhood Deaths
From the 1 April 2008 the government requires Local Safeguarding Children Boards to review the deaths of all children in their area. The regulations are outlined in Working Together to Safeguard Children: Chapter 7.
Aim
- To provide participants with knowledge of the infant mortality programme and child death review process and how they can contribute to preventative work.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Describe Kirklees Safeguarding Children Board's responsibilities for responding to child deaths
- List the different factors affecting child mortality in Kirklees and preventative work in this area
- Describe the child death review process including your role in this process
- Define Sudden Unexpected Death in Children (SUDIC)
- Distinguish between expected and unexpected child death
